Scholarships

“The key to America's continuing competitive strength is the ability for future workers to think globally, not just locally.”
Former U.S. Secretary of Labor - Elaine L. Chao

This is the philosophy of the CA Foundation. The Foundation continues to provide emerging leaders in rural communities with scholarships for educational advancement, both here at home and abroad. Led by leaders from all over the country, the Foundation helps cultivate new, globally minded citizens through education, work, and travel. The CA Foundation has awarded nearly $2 million dollars to young Americans striving to obtain their career dreams. Scholarships benefit a wide range of young people in the fields of nursing, agriculture, and many other training programs. The Foundation takes a "world view" that young people should be encouraged to visit countries and work with businesses to encourage both the businesses and scholarship participants to think globally.

Scholarship Initiatives

  • Workforce Skills - CAF helped fifty-five young people to develop their horticulture skills with on-the-job training at CA member horticulture employers. These young people simultaneously attended online courses from the University of Minnesota to apply their educational training into work skills. The end result is experienced, educated nursery workers who have career futures in the horticulture industry.
  • Rural Training Aboard - Scholarship grants of between $500 and $2,000 are awarded by the CA Foundation to help cover basic costs of participating in the outbound program. Normal expenses include airfare, visa fees, health insurance if required, fees paid to partner organizations for training seminars, and related placement costs.
  • Toro Sponsorship - Since 2006, the Foundation has received corporate sponsorship from Toro to bring young people from other countries to learn about American products and to take that experience home with them as part of their career pursuits.
